Increased revenue is the result of mafia and corruption eradication, says Cheema

Jalandhar, May 3

“For the first time in Punjab, the people elected a third party chief minister and that too with a historic majority. And AAP government and our chief minister Bhagwant Mann are living up to the expectations with which people had elected them,” expressed Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema.

Addressing a press conference in Jalandhar, AAP senior leader and Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that our supremo Arvind Kejriwal and our party have one mantra that is honest politics. Our party was born from an anti-corruption movement and after forming the government in Delhi and Punjab we have proved with our work that politics of honesty is not only possible but also very rewarding. Cheema said that with an honest AAP government in Punjab all the revenues of the state have increased significantly.

Presenting the numbers Cheema said that in April 2022 SGST collection of Punjab was ₹1532 crore and in April 2023 it was ₹2015 crore meaning 31.53% increase. Excise revenue with an increase of 38.34% in April 2023 was ₹781.64 crore as compared to April 2022’s ₹564.12 crore. Yearly 41.41% increase was registered in state excise revenue thanks to the new excise policy of the AAP government. From stamp and registration the state government collected ₹441 crore with an increase of 24% from April 2022’s ₹355 crore collection. Similarly from tax on vehicles this year April registered 4% revenue increase. All tax revenue of the state has increased 22% when we compare total revenue of April 2022 and April 2023.

Cheema said that for the first time Punjab’s revenue collection crossed ₹4,000 crores in a month which is a big achievement and it was only made possible by an honest government. He said that now that mafia and corruption are no longer rampant in Punjab the revenue is increasing. People trust the Aam Aadmi Party government and they are supporting us in this. He said that the people of Punjab deserve the foremost credit and thanks as they elected an honest government. He also thanked chief minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal for this achievement.

Cheema said that in July 2015 when the regime of GST started in India, state governments were instructed to increase revenue on their level too. But unfortunately for Punjab it has a corrupt Congress government in the state who did nothing to increase revenue for five years and only relied on GST compensation money for five years. Cheema said, our government presented two budgets and didn’t impose any new taxes, still significant revenue increases mean that with an honest government and the support of the people everything is possible.
