An Apple worker of Indian beginning has been condemned to three years in jail. For stealing $17 million from the company, he has been ordered to pay over 19 million dollars to it. The United States Attorney’s Office released a press release stating that he used Apple Pay to purchase products that the company never received. In November of last year, Prasad pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud Apple and related tax crimes. Prasad worked as a buyer in Apple’s global service supply chain from 2008 to 2018. He was arrested in March 2022.
According to the report, Prasad admitted to taking kickbacks, stealing parts, overstating invoices, and charging Apple for goods that were never delivered. He additionally conceded to scheming with the proprietors of two seller organizations on these exercises and dodging charges on the returns. The US Department of Justice says that Prasad tried to hide his illegal activities by taking advantage of his position at Apple and using insider information about the company’s fraud detection methods.
Prasad spent ten years at Apple. His responsibility was to acquire parts for Apple to use in the repair of out-of-date, still covered devices. Together, he and two businesses that also sold parts to Apple defrauded Apple of more than $17 million. In addition, Prasad did not pay any taxes on the money he earned from this.
